RAMS templates: what to check before you buy

Start with the named activity

Choose RAMS that genuinely match the work. Electrical installation, excavation, hot works and roof work create different questions around method, access, equipment, interfaces and controls.

Look beyond the cover page

Before buying, inspect representative populated pages. You should be able to see how hazards, people at risk, control measures, PPE, site controls and method content are set out.

Check that the document can be tailored

A starting document still needs the actual project, work area, sequence, workforce, equipment, client requirements and site arrangements added. Editable Word files make that review practical.

Know what a template cannot do

Buying a document does not make a contractor compliant or guarantee a submission will be accepted. RAMS need competent review and adaptation to the real task and site.

Choose a clear route to the right document

Where the activity is known, a named RAMS template is usually clearest. Where work repeats across a trade, a fixed pack can provide several named editable documents.
